The SBLab welcomes motivated students eager to tackle pressing environmental challenges. As a cross-disciplinary research group, we focus on advancing work in water resources and subsurface systems.

  • Postdocs: Reach out to Dr. Lazaro Perez to discuss shared interests. Candidates with external funding are especially encouraged.

  • Graduate students: Prospective students should contact Dr. Perez to explore opportunities.

  • Undergraduates: Students interested in gaining research experience are welcome to inquire about available positions in the lab.

Our Lab

The SBLab focuses on identifying and understanding the connection between physical heterogeneity and biochemical processes that drive environmental biogeochemical reactions, as well as energy and mass transfer in the environment. We design and conduct multiscale laboratory experiments, combining visualization techniques with numerical modeling. Our mission is to address critical environmental challenges, including groundwater remediation, sustainable groundwater management, and the effects of climate change on subsurface hydrodynamics. Our work is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary, providing expertise in biogeochemistry, reactive transport processes, multiphase flow systems, computational fluid dynamics, and lab-to-field-scale hydrology.
